Our History
The artisans at Puzzle Ring Emporium have been custom-designing and hand-crafting beautiful and extraordinary rings in the USA since 1947, that's more than 70 years! We are a family-owned business with decades of combined experience in the craft of fine jewelry. Our tradition of creating unique, handcrafted puzzle rings really began when Captain Joseph Grant was stationed in Saudi Arabia during World War II. While there, Capt. Grant was introduced to puzzle rings, which, in the Middle East, have a centuries-long tradition of being given as wedding rings. After Capt. Grant returned from the service in 1947, he began his craft in a side room of his home in Stamford, Connecticut, which quickly grew into one of the most successful businesses in all of Stamford. Joseph worked at the bench every day until shortly before his death in the spring of 2010 at 102 years of age.
In 1964, Mr. Grant’s daughter Theresia was born and as soon as she was tall enough to reach the bench she began working in the business and learning the craft from her father. (Her first "job", polishing all of the rings her dad made, earned her a whopping 50¢ a day!) In 1981 she graduated as a gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America in Santa Monica. Later she managed a jewelry store in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands and also worked as a diamond buyer in St. Thomas and Switzerland, making regular buying trips to India, the Middle East and Africa.
Today, Theresia is Puzzle Ring Emporium's chief craftsperson, having designed or handcrafted literally thousands of rings over the past 50 years. Our puzzle ring designs are now known throughout the world, having been made for such notable individuals as President John F. Kennedy, Elvis Presley, Harrison Ford, and the current King of Saudi Arabia, King Abdullah.
Custom Designs
Each puzzle ring we make is entirely our own. Our puzzle ring designs are drawn from European and Arabic puzzle ring traditions, but we also offer a full range of traditional puzzle rings, including Egyptian puzzle rings, Turkish puzzle rings, gimmel rings, chain rings and féde rings. We also carry many modern, innovative puzzle rings of our own design, featuring unique motifs integrated with traditional styling. All of our puzzle rings are available in sterling silver; 10K, 14K & 18K yellow, white & rose gold; and platinum – or any combination you desire. We also offer puzzle rings set with semi-precious and precious stones.
Quality of Craftsmanship is Our Byword
Unlike imported puzzle rings, ours are handcrafted with lasting quality in mind. Each band of each ring is fused, not soldered, which greatly increases the strength of the ring. And we use only solid precious metals, none of our rings are plated, filled, rolled or hollow, which means your ring will last a lifetime.
